My Birthplace: Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster
My Education: Penna School for the Deaf, Phila Pa 1949
My family: A son Marvin; A daughter, Sherry, and grandson, Nicholas, age 17
My first Job: worked as Shoe Repairman for H.L. Green Co. At the corner Queen St and
Orange St. The building was gone and CVS Drug Store is presently on site
Lad Member: 1949, first joined when LAD had a rental building at Sunnyside.
My Employment: I am retired. Had worked at Lancaster Malleable Casting for 38 years
and retired in 1994
What you like about your retirement: Restless! It only take me about a month before I
decided to return in the work force. I was offered by person to work as full time Shoe
Repairman at Michael's Shoes, worked 7 years. Right now, I am still working there as
part time for the last three years.
My Idea of good time: I go out to any sporting events as much as I can and enjoy it very
much.
My best Memories in Deaf Club: I often talked about how hard Andrew G. and I as vice
president and president, respectively to secured the mortgage to purchase N. Cherry
St property in 1973. We were lucky to get the property that we can afford. The members
were so supportive in this progress. Our big accomplishment was that we sold raffles
aggressively for six years and pay off the mortgage. Sherry Brown added that she
remembered that John and Andy had Sherry Brown, age 12 and Sharon Gulya, age 11
in tow when they went to Fulton Bank. Sherry remembered on how hard they worked
to get the property.
